FSR missing: AMD RSR workaround
Native AMD FSR is not available in the current full-release build. Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) is a separate driver-level fallback for supported AMD systems.
Verified workaround · AMD driver
Native FSR is missing for now; use AMD RSR as the driver-level fallback.
Frogwares' current FAQ says the full-release build does not support AMD FSR yet because the required Unreal Engine 5.8 plugin/patch is not available. Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) is different: AMD's driver-level spatial upscaler can work when the game renders below native resolution in exclusive or borderless fullscreen. It is not the same as a game-integrated FSR toggle, and this route makes no quality or performance guarantee.
01 · Do this
Follow the route in order.
- 01
Check the prerequisites first: Windows 10 or Windows 11 on a desktop system, a discrete AMD Radeon RX 5000 Series GPU or later, and a full AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.7.1 or later installation. If your system does not meet this list, this RSR route does not apply.
- 02
Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition → Gaming → The Sinking City 2. Add the game profile if it is not listed, then enable Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) for this profile. Keep it per-game unless you intentionally want a global driver setting.
- 03
Launch the game in exclusive Fullscreen or Borderless Fullscreen. In exclusive Fullscreen, lower The Sinking City 2's in-game resolution below your monitor's native resolution; in Borderless Fullscreen, follow Adrenalin's desktop-resolution behavior and make sure the active game render is still below native. RSR stays inactive at native resolution; the current player-tested route uses one step below the normal in-game resolution.
- 04
If the game exposes an Upscaler option, set it to None for this workaround. Do not stack RSR with TSR or another in-game upscaler; the player discussion reports that stacking looks muddy. This is a player-tested instruction, not a Frogwares requirement.
- 05
Apply the profile and return to live gameplay. Use the Adrenalin overlay or profile indicator where available to check that RSR is active, and verify that the game is rendering below native while the display output is returned to your monitor's native resolution.
02 · Confirm
What success looks like.
- The game still has no native FSR option; that is expected in the current full release until Frogwares can ship the required UE5.8 AMD plugin/patch.
- Adrenalin's RSR indicator or overlay reports the feature active (where the installed driver exposes that signal), while the game render resolution is below the monitor's native resolution.
- The monitor/display output remains at its native resolution while RSR scales the lower in-game render back up; do not use visual sharpness or FPS alone as proof that RSR activated.
03 · Boundaries
Read this before changing files.
- RSR is a driver-level spatial fallback powered by AMD's FSR technology, not the game's integrated FSR implementation. It does not promise the same image quality, motion handling, or performance as a future native FSR option.
- RSR requires an exclusive or borderless fullscreen path and a game resolution below native. It can remain inactive at native resolution, and borderless behavior can vary with the desktop mode.
- The AMD compatibility list requires Windows 10/11, a discrete Radeon RX 5000 Series GPU or later, and Adrenalin 22.7.1+; unsupported hardware or driver installations cannot be treated as a verified route.
- Do not use OptiScaler as part of this page. The Steam thread contains conflicting third-party reports, and that DLL-injection path has a higher compatibility and security risk than the driver-only workaround.
04 · Undo
How to roll it back.
- Exit the game, return to AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition → Gaming → The Sinking City 2, and disable Radeon Super Resolution for the profile.
- Restore the monitor and game to their normal native resolution. If you changed the desktop resolution for borderless mode, restore the previous desktop setting too.
- RSR does not modify game files. Re-enable the game's preferred in-game upscaler only after RSR is disabled, so two scalers are not stacked.
